How do we collect personal information?

We and our service providers may collect personal information in various ways, including:

Through the Sites: We may collect personal information through the Sites; for example, when you sign up for a newsletter, communicate with a chat bot, or make a purchase.
Offline: In the office: We collect your personal information in our offices, for example, when you contact customer service to subscribe to a program or service or to provide us with information, whether in writing, by voice or video call.

Through geolocation: We may collect information about the geolocation of your device.

In some cases, we may use third-party payment services to make purchases and/or collect donations through the Sites. In such cases, your personal information may be collected by such third party, not by us, and the collected information will be subject to the privacy policy of such third party, not our privacy policy. How do we use personal information?

We may use your device's geographic location to provide you with location-based services and content. Your personal data will be processed by EF both inside and outside the EU/EEA/Switzerland, primarily for the purpose of completing your booking or providing the products and services you have requested (including travel insurance coverage) and for customer service and marketing activities. As our servers are located in the USA, our sales teams operate from local offices around the world, our head office is located in Switzerland and the schools where students choose to take classes are located in local offices around the world, we may share your personal data with our affiliates, claims processors and business partners inside and outside the EU/EEA/Switzerland. When we offer the use of a conversational assistant in any of EF’s products trained with the latest AI technology, the questions you ask the assistant will be transmitted and permanently stored by the AI service provider, but will not be used to train or develop their AI models. Private conversations and personal data in the designated fields in the conversation will be stored by EF in the CRM system for marketing or customer service purposes. The business partners with whom we exchange information are only those who need access to personal information in order to process the requests you have posted on the Sites, such as assistance with transportation, accommodation or schools; they will therefore only receive the information necessary for this purpose. No business partner will receive your personal information for its own marketing purposes. Please note that EF processes your personal data in accordance with applicable privacy and data protection legislation. Security

We take reasonable organizational, technical and administrative measures to protect the personal information in our possession. Unfortunately, no data transmission over the Internet or data storage system can be guaranteed to be completely secure.

We offer you many choices regarding our use and disclosure of your personal information for marketing purposes.

We will endeavour to respond to your request(s) as quickly as possible. Please note that we may continue to send you important administrative messages, even if you have opted out of receiving marketing-related messages, and you cannot opt out of receiving these administrative messages.

To review, correct, update, delete, erase or otherwise limit our use of your personal information that you have previously provided to us, please use the Contact Us form and clearly state your request. Please indicate in your request what information you would like to have changed, or state that you would like your personal information to be removed from our database or inform us of any limitations you would like to place on the use of your personal information.

We will try to respond to your request as quickly as possible. However, despite our efforts, some information may remain in our databases or other records that we cannot remove or change. This Policy does not address, and we are not responsible for, the privacy, information or practices of any third parties, including any third party operating any website linked to from the EF Site. The inclusion of a link on the EF Sites does not imply endorsement by us or our affiliates of the linked site.

Additionally, we may provide you with access to third party functionality that allows you to add content to your social media accounts. Please note that any information you provide through the use of this functionality is subject to the third party’s privacy policy and not this Privacy Policy. Accordingly, we have no control over, and are not responsible for, any third party’s use of the information you provide through the use of this functionality.

Also, we are not responsible for the data collection, use and disclosure policies and practices (including data security practices) of other organizations such as Facebook, Apple, Google, Microsoft, RIM or any other app developer, app provider, social media platform provider, operating system provider, wireless service provider or device manufacturer, including any personal information you disclose to other organizations through or in connection with the Apps or Social Media Pages.

Information retention period

We will retain your personal information for the period necessary to fulfil the purposes set out in this policy.

Use of Sites by Minors

We offer children's programs that are purchased by adults. To protect children's privacy, we require parental consent from users who are under the age of majority in their country of residence and wish to make a reservation or request a brochure for one of these programs.

Sensitive information

We generally ask that you do not send or disclose to us any sensitive information (e.g., information relating to ethnic or racial origin, political opinions, religious or other beliefs, health or medical condition, criminal background or trade union membership) on or through the Sites or otherwise. In some special exceptional circumstances where this may be required, such as insurance claims, we will clearly indicate how you can do this safely.

We may make changes to this policy. Please look at the “Last Updated” button at the top of this page to see when this policy was last revised. Any changes we may make to our Privacy Policy will be effective from the moment we post the revised Privacy Policy on the Site.
